WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Cousins Subs hosted a ribbon cutting with the Wausau Chamber of Commerce on Friday morning as they officially gear up for the opening day of their new Wausau location.
The event included many of the company’s top executives, including Cousins CEO Christine Specht, who spent time discussing the opening with media members and Wausau officials while also giving out samples of subs, cookies, and even Cousins merchandise such as socks, lip balm, pens, can koozies, and more, as the attendees hoped to get their first look at the popular sandwich shop’s first Wausau location in over a decade.
When asked about what it means to be back in Wausau, Specht says this has been a long time coming: “We love just being a part of these communities, and as we expand our footprint throughout the rest of Wisconsin, Wausau was an obvious market for us to reintroduce ourselves to, and after over 15 years since we’ve had a presence in the market, we believed it was certainly time to get back here to work with the community and be involved with what the community does.”
Specht further spoke about having a location so close to competition such as Subway and Jimmy John’s in the Wausau area saying, “Cousins can really differentiate itself from our competitors in a number of ways starting with of course as we’ve said for over 50 years the bread is the hallmark of the brand so that’s really unique,” she continued by saying that “we also have a wonderful side item menu which includes cheese curds, shakes, fries and now we just launched chili cheese fries I mean it’s all this wonderful indulgence.”
The chain now has 91 total locations across the state and with just a couple more days of training left, the Wausau location located at 225 S 18th Ave will be open to the public starting Monday, February 5th.
