Just how successful were the soil remediation efforts in Wausau’s Riverside Park?
The city’s Parks and Rec committee will find that out on Monday when consultants present the findings of recent soil testing in the area.
Results show that a significant portion of the contamination has been removed from the area, though some dioxins remain and additional testing may be recommended in two areas where testing showed that contamination could extend beyond the area where soil was replaced.
Those findings are part of the conclusion and recommendation part of the information presented by consultants, which begins on page 34 of Monday’s agenda packet. Maps showing the areas near the site in question can be found on page 79, outlined in bright blue.
Nearly two tons of dirt were removed last summer after years of testing, analysis, and discussion among city leaders.
Monday’s meeting begins at 4:30 PM at City Hall. Leaders will also hear more about the department’s goals for 2024.
