MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Trade talks between the Milwaukee Bucks and a Western conference team appear to be heating up as the team searches to add a piece to help improve their defense.
NBA insider Marc Stein reports that the Dallas Mavericks and Milwaukee Bucks have had “exploratory discussions” about trading Bobby Portis Jr. for Grant Williams. Stein did note that the Bucks are not open to trading Williams for Portis in the absence of other players or draft picks due to Williams’ recently signed four-year $52 million contract.
Williams is averaging just 8.1 points while shooting 41.0 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from beyond the arc, despite playing a career-high 26.5 minutes per game. The Bucks, whose 116.4 defensive rating is at No. 19 among NBA teams, are hoping Williams can return to the kind of defender he was when he played for the Celtics before being traded to Dallas last offseason.
