MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers are shaking up their starting rotation.
According to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel, the Brewers agreed to a one-year deal with right-hander Jakob Junis late on Monday night, pending a physical.
With a $4 million salary in 2024 and a $3 million buyout on a mutual option for 2025, Junis will receive a guaranteed $7 million.
The 31-year-old, who played for the San Francisco Giants for two seasons, recorded 198 innings with a 4.18 ERA in 63 games (21 starts) during his time in the Bay Area.
Junis’ 2024 season was possibly his most successful. He pitched 86 innings with a 3.87 ERA and a 3.74 FIP. His strikeout rate of 26.2% was a career-best.
In exchange for cash, the Brewers also sent left-hander Ethan Small to the Giants. Following the acquisition of Joey Ortiz and DL Hall by the Brewers in the Burnes deal last week, he was designated for assignment.
The former first-round pick pitched mostly out of the bullpen for Triple-A Nashville in 2023 after failing to establish himself as a starting pitcher.
