GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Packers’ new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley has begun filling out his new defensive coaching staff by hiring two coaches who were on a lot of the team’s radar this offseason.
According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, the Packers have hired Anthony Campanile, a former linebackers coach for the Miami Dolphins, to the same position, and former LA Chargers DC Derrick Ansley as the team’s new pass game coordinator.
Before being elevated to defensive coordinator in 2023, Ansley worked as Brandon Staley’s defensive backs coach for two seasons (2021–2022). In 2023, Ansley did not make defensive play calls for the Chargers until after Staley was fired. In Ansley’s three games running the defense, the Chargers surrendered just 17.7 points per game.
Meanwhile, having coached the linebackers for the Miami Dolphins for the last four seasons, Campanile is anticipated to assist in managing the team’s switch to a 4-3 scheme and coordinate the run game.
After being praised for helping to develop talented pass-rushers like Andrew Van Ginkel and Jaelen Phillips while in Miami, Campanile had unsuccessful interviews this past hiring cycle with both the New York Giants and the Dolphins for available defensive coordinator positions.
