MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers are reportedly adding another power-hitting catcher to their team.
According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, the Brewers are in agreement with former New York Yankees and San Diego Padres star catcher Gary Sanchez on a one-year deal plus an option worth $7 million that will bring him to Milwaukee.
The two-time All-Star has struggled to return to the dominant offensive numbers that he put up while with the Yankees, hitting just .218 and 19 home runs with the Padres last season. Sanchez most notably finished second in the 2016 AL Rookie of the Year voting after hitting 20 home runs and with a .299 batting average.
The Brewers signed former Detroit Tigers catcher Eric Haase this offseason and called up star prospect Jeferson Quero. They also already have William Contreras, so where Sanchez will play this upcoming season remains to be seen.
