WAUSAU, Wis.(WAOW-WSAU)– Community members celebrated the Lunar New Year at the Boys and Girls Club.
The holiday symbolizes a hopeful transition from the cold winter to a season of renewal. One of the event organizers, Joy Wang, says these cultural events are valuable.
“To celebrate my culture, my heritage, and this tradition that I have experienced as a child to bring this to my community that I call my home,” said Wang.
At the Lunar New Year celebration, attendees witnessed a dragon and lion dance, a Kung Fu demonstration, a Chinese cooking lesson, and cultural performances. The event was family-friendly, and the celebration also represented unity in the community.
The Lunar New Year celebration has been taking place in Wausau since 2016. Organizers tell News Nine they look forward to hosting again in the future.
