WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Spencer man facing a count of repeated sexual assault of the same child is working towards a plea deal with the state.
Matthew Gerstenlauer is accused of sexually assaulting a boy at his home in Spencer. The victim told a social worker about the incidents, who turned the information over to the police.
The boy says the abuse began back in 2013 when he was nine years old.
Court records show the two sides have scheduled a plea hearing for April 4th. However, a mid-April trial is still logged in case the deal falls through. Gerstenlauer faces up to a century in prison if found guilty.
He has pled not guilty to the charges and is free on a $2,000 signature bond. Conditions of the bond include no contact with the victim or any children under the age of 18.
