WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — It was another successful year for the WDEZ Country Cares for Kids Radiothon.
After coming close to the $200,000 mark in 2023, this year’s event blew past that milestone, raising $204,776.
“We’re never trying to break last year’s goal. We never try to do anything like that,” said WDEZ morning show host Bryan Scott. “We are just trying to raise as much money as we can so this research [at St. Jude Children’s Hospital] can continue. So these lives can continue.”
Hundreds of listeners donated $19 per month as a “Partner in Hope” for the research hospital. Local businesses also took part by sponsoring matching hours or donating prizes for those who signed up during special hours.
The money goes to help fund research programs at St. Jude and cover travel, lodging, and meal expenses for families with children who are receiving care. No family ever receives a bill for services from St. Jude. The techniques and methods they develop are shared with doctors worldwide at no cost as well.
