Despite a 30-13 start, Milwaukee fired first-year head coach Adrian Griffin as the squad then went on to have a 2-1 record under interim coach Joe Prunty.
Shams Charania, Sam Amick, and Eric Nehm of The Athletic reported that Griffin’s firing was due to “months of underwhelming play with internal concerns growing about the severe decline of their once-elite defense, the flawed use of newcomer Damian Lillard alongside franchise centerpiece Giannis Antetokounmpo and a widespread fear that this group, which was widely expected to contend for a title, was likely to fall short if Milwaukee stood pat.”
The Bucks have struggled under Rivers, going 3-7, but with Damian Lillard’s dominant All-Star weekend performance, Bucks fans will be hoping the team can pick up the pace in the second half of the season.
