WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Republican entrepreneur and businessman Eric Hovde officially entered the U.S. Senate race on Tuesday morning when he released his campaign’s first ad on X.
In a statement posted on the platform, Hovde stated that he is running for the seat because he is “tired of constant division and finger-pointing by politicians.” He also noted that Wisconsin needs a “fighter” in Washington who will work to find common ground to “restore the American dream.”
I'm running for the U.S. Senate because I'm tired of constant division and finger pointing by politicians.
It's time to send a fighter to Washington who will work to find common ground and restore the American Dream.

A report last week from the AP noted that Hovde has been quietly preparing for this announcement over the last few months by hiring staff and setting up campaign events across the state. His announcement will come after a couple of notable Republican officeholders, including Rep. Tom Tiffany and soon-to-be former Rep. Mike Gallagher, opted against running for the seat last fall.
Hovde last ran for the seat back in 2012 and was defeated in the Republican primary by former Gov. Tommy Thompson, who went on to lose to Tammy Baldwin in the general election by 5 percentage points.
In an interview with Wisconsin Right Now, Hovde spoke about running against Sen. Tammy Baldwin, stating that she is “a rubber stamp” for President Biden and that Baldwin has only worked in government since graduating college and can’t truly relate to the everyday Wisconsin voter.
According to the latest Marquette Law poll, just 7% of respondents viewed Hovde favorably and 9% viewed him unfavorably while his opponent Sen. Tammy Baldwin came in with 42% viewing her favorably and 45% viewing her unfavorably.
