WASHINGTON DC (WSAU) – One of the popular Koch Network PACs has announced that they will be ending their donations to Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign.
According to Politico, Americans For Prosperity Action CEO Emily Seidel said that the organization needs to “take stock” of its spending priorities following Nikki Haley’s 20-point defeat to former president Donald Trump in the South Carolina primary.
“She has made it clear that she will continue to fight, and we wholeheartedly support her in this effort. But given the challenges in the primary states ahead, we don’t believe any outside group can make a material difference to widen her path to victory,” Seidel told the outlet.
AFP Action has backed Haley’s campaign for president since November, and in response to their decision, Haley’s spokesperson, Olivia Perez-Cubas, says the campaign is still in a good place financially. With “more than $1 million coming in from grassroots conservatives in just the last 24 hours, we have plenty of fuel to keep going. We have a country to save,” she stated.
AFP did not say if they would be changing their support to Trump, instead they stated that they will refocus on House and Senate races across the nation as part of its “broader 2024 strategy” to prevent a full liberal takeover in November. The group has already backed candidates in Nevada, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin and plans to do the same in Ohio and Michigan.
According to the Morning Consult’s latest poll, Trump leads Haley in the GOP primary by 63 points (81%–18%), and Trump would defeat Biden 45%–41% in the general election.
