WASHINGTON DC (WSAU) – The United States Army revealed on Tuesday that it has decided to slash 24,000 jobs as it struggles to meet its recruiting quotas.
According to Fox News, the changes will primarily affect unfilled positions and will have no impact on soldiers who are currently deployed.
“The Army is not asking current soldiers to leave,” a spokesperson said. “As the Army builds back-end strength over the next few years, most installations will likely see an increase in the number of soldiers actually stationed there.”
According to a Pentagon official, the US military failed its recruiting goals for 2023 by 41,000, and more struggles are expected in 2024 after the House Armed Services Committee was informed in December by Ashish Vazirani, the acting undersecretary for personnel and readiness at the Pentagon, that 11% of today’s kids would not be eligible for military service due to being overweight and that 77% of today’s kids would not be eligible without a waiver.
