WESTON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Workers accidentally triggered the emergency alert system at D.C. Everest Senior High.
Workers with the district’s security company accidentally hit the alarm for the school and nearby community center, according to an email to parents and staff that WAOW TV obtained. Once the accidental nature of the incident was discovered, staff immediately went room-to-room to announce the false alarm.
The alarm was triggered at about 9:30 AM. Students were in lockdown for about 10 minutes.
The email said, in part:
Law enforcement leadership was notified the incident was a false alarm and after confirmation, responding officers were called off. We would like to thank law enforcement for their swift, appropriate and professional response.
Members of the Senior High administration team immediately went room-to-room to notify staff and students the incident was a false alarm.
Counselors were and continue to be available to support any student or staff member. During today’s advisory session, staff will discuss and process the experience together with students.
Please know the District, vendors and law enforcement are actively reviewing procedures around emergency systems testing, maintenance and installation.
