MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The latest Associated Press college basketball poll is out, and both of Wisconsin’s teams failed to move up in the rankings following a tough weekend for the programs.
The Golden Eagles dropped three spots from five to eight following an 89-75 road loss to Creighton. The loss snapped the team’s three-game win streak as they played without their top two star players Tyler Kolek and Oso Ighodaro due to injury/illness leading to coach Shaka Smart having to rely more on role players such as Kam Jones and David Joplin who combined for 44 points on 17-29 shooting from the field. However, the rest of the Golden Eagles’ starting lineup struggled to score combining for just 25 points and shooting only 11-27 from the field.
Meanwhile, the Wisconsin Badgers lost their seventh game out of their last ten falling to Illinois on Saturday 91-83. It was Wisconsin’s second most points given up in a game this year behind the 98-points they gave up to Arizona earlier in the season. The Badgers were led offensively by Tyler Wahl who scored 20 points on 9-14 shooting and Max Klesmit who scored 16 points on 5-9 shooting.
The Badgers will look to try to salvage their season on Thursday night as they host the Rutgers Scarlett Knights on WSAU with pre-game beginning at 5:30 and the Golden Eagles will look to get back to their winning ways as they host the UConn Huskies on Wednesday night at 7:30 on FS1.
