WASHINGTON DC (WSAU) – A new leak from the German military states that troops from the UK are actively on the ground in Ukraine, as rumors continue to swirl around reports that the U.S. also has 12 secret CIA labs in the country.
According to the Guardian, a top-secret call between German air force officers was leaked to Russian media, that British soldiers are reportedly “on the ground” in Ukraine, assisting Kyiv’s forces in firing long-range Storm Shadow missiles.
The leak details how Lt Gen. Ingo Gerhartz, the commander of the German Luftwaffe, explains how Britain collaborates with Ukrainian forces to use the missiles against targets that are up to 93 miles behind Russian borders, saying, “When it comes to mission planning, I know how the English do it; they do it completely in reach back. They also have a few people on the ground; they do that; the French don’t.”
No details on how many British servicemembers are currently stationed in the war-torn country but the Guardian noted that former British defense ministers have voiced their dissatisfaction with the German military in response to the revelations, while the Kremlin said the leak proved the direct involvement of the “collective West” in the war in Ukraine.
This comes a week after the New York Times reported that the CIA has trained and equipped Ukraine’s intelligence officers in underground bunkers around the country over the past 10 years, including providing full financing for the facilities.
According to a former senior US official who spoke with the Times, the secret spy facilities serve as Ukraine’s military “nerve center,” tracking Russian spy satellites. Ivan Bakanov, former head of Ukraine’s domestic intelligence agency, the SBU, spoke about secret U.S. bases, saying, “Without them, there would have been no way for us to resist the Russians or to beat them.”
Ukrainian forces have struggled to regain territory in the region after strategically withdrawing their troops from the key town of Avdiivka last month. Russia’s capture of Avdiivka was the largest change to the war’s front lines since their forces seized the town of Bakhmut last May and was praised by Russian President Vladimir Putin as an “important victory” due to it closing off a major pathway for Ukrainian forces to attempt to retake the Russian-occupied city of Donetsk.
