GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers may be looking to improve their offensive line in April’s draft after holding formal meetings with some of the draft’s top prospects.
According to Packers Insider, the Packers met with former Wisconsin Badgers lineman and Kewaunee native Tanor Bortolini during the Senior Bowl, along with Oregon State lineman Tailese Fuaga, Duke lineman Graham Barton, and BYU offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia during last week’s NFL combine.
The Packers have a lot of questions to address regarding their offensive line, including whether or not to keep David Bakhtiari, resign Jon Runyan Jr. and Yosh Nijman, and figure out if former third-round pick Sean Rhyan and starting center Josh Myers fit in the team’s system long-term.
Bortolini tested very well during the NFL combine, scoring one of the top relative athletic scores of 9.79 out of ten and running a solid 4.94 40-yard dash. He was known for his strong footwork, technique, and ability to show good patience in pass protection while at Wisconsin, but he also showed poor balance at times and struggled to get good hand placement when facing strong pass rushers.
With the strong veteran safety class currently in free agency, which includes former Broncos All-Pro Justin Simmons, Seahawks safeties Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs, Commanders safety Kamren Curl, Bears safety Eddie Jackson, and Ravens safety Geno Stone, the Packers may opt to sign one or two of these veterans, draft an offensive lineman such as Tailese Fuaga or Graham Barton at 25 overall, and then select Bortolini in the 4th or 5th round to ensure Jordan Love has some young, long-term protection options for years to come.
