STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A Wisconsin Rapids man is accused of causing a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian near Stevens Point.
Officers received an anonymous tip Wednesday evening, leading them to the home of Kenneth Butler. He was arrested and is being held in the Portage County Jail for possible charges including hit-and-run, causing great bodily harm.
No further information about the tip or the suspect was released.
The crash occurred Tuesday on West River Drive, near the County Road HH intersection. A passerby found the victim unresponsive in the ditch. Medical personnel provided treatment at the scene before he was airlifted to a Wausau hospital.
The 63-year-old man was in critical condition as of Wednesday morning. No update on his condition has been provided.
Residents in the area say the man, whose name has not been released, would routinely walk on River Drive during the day.
Police in Wisconsin Rapids assisted with the investigation. Court action against Butler hasn’t been scheduled.
