TOWN OF DEWHURST, WI (WSAU) — The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that nine people died in Friday’s semi versus van crash between Neillsville and Eau Claire.
Among the deceased was the driver of the semi, who died at the scene. Eight people in the van were also pronounced dead by the Clark County Coroner.
Names of those involved have not been released.
Both vehicles entered the WI95/County Road J intersection simultaneously at around 7:50 Friday morning. No further details about the crash have been released, including whether alcohol or speed were factors.
KSTP, FOX9, and other Twin Cities outlets sent reporters and helicopters to the scene on Friday to cover the incident. Reporters from Eau Claire and Wausau were also on the scene, including WAOW’s Nick Robinson.
The intersection was closed for most of Friday. Traffic was detoured to Riveria Avenue, Pineview Road, Fisher Avenue, and back to Highway 95 during the closure.
