MARSHFEILD, WI (WSAU)– According to a press release from the Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department, an oven fire occurred on Friday, March 15th at around 10:30 P.M. at the Laurel Gardens Apartments.
Marshfield Fire and Rescue responded to the scene with 9 personnel, due to a report that an oven catching fire. Upon arriving at the complex, residents were found standing outside. The fire led to black smoke filling the apartment and heavy smoke conditions on the first floor of the complex.
A Marshfield Police officer informed the MFRD that a fire extinguisher was used on the stove, and when the internal attack crew made entry, no active fire was found. 11 firefighters assisted with ventilation efforts to remove smoke and toxic gases from the apartment complex and were on the scene for 45 minutes.
The cause of the fire was improperly stored plasticware in the broiler drawer of a natural gas/oven unit, where it began to overheat igniting the fire.
No one was injured in the incident.
