WAUPACA, WI (WSAU) — Trial dates have been set for a Weyauwega man suspected of stabbing Timothy Mumbrue and Tanna Togstad in Waupaca County after a night of drinking.
Tony Haase was in court on Wednesday where a judge blocked off a 30-day window next summer for the trial, beginning July 14th, 2025, and running through August 22nd.
Police say Haase ended up in a home with Mumbrue and Togstad in 1992 and stabbed them because he was upset over the loss of his father, who died in a snowmobile accident that also involved Togstad’s father. He has admitted that he was at the house the night the two were stabbed but says his memory of that night is foggy because he had been drinking.
Haase is facing two counts of first-degree murder and must be tried under the state’s laws as they were written when the alleged crimes occurred.
He’ll return to court on May 31st for a review hearing and again in October for motion hearings. Haase is being held in jail on a $2 million bond.
