WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – State of Affairs episode eight is now available, featuring Mosinee mayor and 87th Assembly District candidate Brent Jacobson joining the program to discuss his campaign and issues facing the state.
When discussing his top platform issues, Jacobson says Wisconsin needs to do more to become more competitive economically, with states such as Florida that have no income tax, saying, “I think the fear with talking about eliminating the state income tax is those who say, well, how are you possibly going to do that and fill that revenue source? You’re not going to do it overnight by any means, but I’m interested in getting there step by step, starting with a flat tax, and eventually ending with us eliminating the state income tax.”
According to a United Van Lines study of 2020 moving data, the COVID-19 pandemic caused decisions to relocate from high-tax states—such as New Jersey, New York, and California—to low-tax states—such as South Dakota, Tennessee, and Florida—at a high rate. Florida has been in the top four for growth nine years in a row, and it ranked as the No. 2 state people moved to in 2023, according to U-Haul.

Evers decisions when it comes to vetoing tax credit bills, the state Supreme Court ruling Catholic Charities is no longer a tax-exempt organization, and where he believes the state is heading on the issue of abortion.
