STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Three of the men wanted in connection with the death of 61-year-old Donald G. Mitchell Jr. have been formally charged with reckless homicide, and two are being held on a high cash bond.
Portage County District Attorney Cass Cousins has announced that Christian Emerson, Brandon L. Boehm, and Arlin Sangster are all facing one felony count that could land them in prison for up to 46 years.
The trio is accused of beating Mitchell in a downtown Stevens Point parking lot last Friday night. Mitchell was rushed to a Stevens Point hospital and then airlifted to Wausau where he died from his injuries on Saturday afternoon.
Details regarding what led to the confrontation have not been released. Emerson was arrested that weekend for a count of reckless battery and released after posting a $50,000 bond. Court records indicate that he remains free despite the new charges, but is due to return to court on April 3rd.
Both Boehm and Sangster made bond hearings in a Stevens Point courtroom on Thursday and are being held on $250,000 cash. If they post the cash they would have no-contact orders with each other and the victim’s family. They will also return to court on April 3rd alongside Emerson.
Court records show that the state requested a $1 million bond for Boehm, but the judge decided on a lower amount.
Reckless homicide is a class B felony that carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison. Each defendant faces an additional six years because of the victim’s age.
A fourth man wanted in connection with the case, Daemon Kitzrow, has been cleared of any wrongdoing and will not be prosecuted.
