WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The Wausau School District has named an interim superintendent for the 2024-’25 academic year.
Cale Bushman has been given the interim tag after a special meeting of the Board of Education on Thursday. Vice President Lance Trollop says he feels Bushman will do well in the role. “The Board of Education unanimously supports Mr. Bushman’s promotion to [interim] superintendent, and we look forward to working with him in this new capacity starting in July. Mr. Bushman’s educational experience and advancing student learning, achievement, and success make him the perfect fit for this role.”
Speaking about the role, Bushman stated he’s excited about the opportunity. “I am humbled and honored to serve as the next leader of the Wausau School District following the retirement of Dr. Keith Hilts. As a long-time member of the Wausau community and a proud parent of three daughters who have all received exceptional educations through the district, I have seen firsthand how fortunate we are to have such wonderful schools in our community. I am committed to continuously developing our great schools through strong relationships with and among our school board, staff members, parents, and students. Additionally, I am excited to engage community members and partners in developing and maintaining a top-tier school system.”
Bushman has more than 20 years of experience and has held many positions, including Director of Pupil Services, Principal of Wausau East High School, Principal of Eau Claire North High School, former Associate Principal of Pupil Services at Wausau West High School, and Special Education teacher/coach.
Bushman’s appointment begins on July 1st, one day after Dr. Keith Hilts will retire. Trollop adds that they will re-evaluate the situation during the 2024-’25 academic year to determine if another search will be conducted, or if Bushman will have the interim tag removed.
Hilts came to Wausau in 2018 after serving as Superintendent of schools for Ashland.
