BROOKLYN, NY and INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WSAU) — After rolling into the Big Ten Tournament championship game last weekend, the Wisconsin Badger men’s basketball team fell flat on their face against a 30-win James Madison squad 72-61.
Max Klesmit led the way with 18 points on 5-12 shooting. Steven Crowl turned in a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. AJ Storr added 13 points in the loss.
James Madison controlled the pace for much of the game, forcing Wisconsin into turnovers and bad shots as they built a 33-20 halftime lead. At one point the Badgers had nine turnovers to just two made field goals.
The Dukes recorded 30 points in the paint and 27 points off turnovers as they extended their nations-best win streak to 14 games.
JMU will take on Duke University in the second round on Sunday. Wisconsin finishes the season with a 22-14 record.
Meanwhile, Marquette breezed by Western Kentucky 87-69 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Kam Jones led the offense with 28 points, and Tyler Kolek returned to the lineup with 18 points and 10 assists.
Kolek missed the last six games with an oblique injury.
Steven Mitchell added three blocked shots.
Marquette, the second seed in the South region, advances to play #10 Colorado who held off a late rally from Florida to secure a 102-100 win in their first-round matchup. The Buffaloes already have two tournament wins under their belt after defeating Boise State in the First Four on Wednesday.
