The Village of Rothschild is next up to consider an intergovernmental services agreement that would create the Mountain Bay Metropolitan Police Department.
The department would consist of 40 sworn officers that would serve Rothschild and Weston along with Schofield and the Town of Weston.
Highlights of the agreement include the creation of a seven-member Police Commission featuring four members appointed by the Village of Weston and three from Rothschild. The commission will be tasked with selecting a Chief for the new department, with the current Rothschild Police Chief Jeremy Hunt expected to be considered for the position. The department will be housed in the current Rothschild PD facility, with the EMPD building in Weston used for storage.
Weston voted to approve the agreement last Monday. If Rothschild follows suit, the MBMPD could begin operating in April.
The board meets tonight at 6:30 at the Rothschild Village Hall.
