WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAU) – Former President Donald Trump won a significant legal victory on Monday morning after a New York appeals court voted to lower his $454 million judgment.
As reported by the New York Post, in a brief ruling released by the Appellate Division, a five-judge panel lowered the sum to $175 million and granted Trump 10 days to provide the money, which Trump praised, saying, “It will be my honor to post, and we’ll post whatever is necessary, whether it be cash, security, or bond.”
Trump’s legal team referred to the decision as “monumental,” which follows New York Attorney General Letitia James’s pursuit of Donald Trump’s Westchester golf property and Seven Springs estate, for which she originally placed a deadline of March 25 to post bond despite his team stating their difficulties to pay the initial $464 million civil fraud verdict.
The Post noted that James’ office responded to the court’s decision through a statement, saying, “Donald Trump is still facing accountability for his staggering fraud.” and “The court has already found that he engaged in years of fraud to falsely inflate his net worth and unjustly enrich himself, his family, and his organization.”
As the former president’s counsel was responding to the court’s decision, Politico also reported that another court scheduled Trump’s trial for the NYC District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s business documents case for April 15th, which involves former adult actress Stormy Daniels reportedly receiving payment to keep silent about her sexual experiences with Trump. He will face 34 charges of “falsifying business records in the first degree,” which he pleaded not guilty to in 2023.
