STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — One of the three suspects in the beating death of a 61-year-old man in Stevens Point is back behind bars after a bond modification hearing.
Christian Emerson returned to court on Thursday where a judge increased his bond to $250,000 cash. He did not post the money and was returned to the Portage County Jail.
Emerson was the first person arrested in connection with the beating of Donald Mitchell Jr. on March 15th. First responders found him lying near his truck in a downtown parking lot and rushed him to a Stevens Point hospital. He was airlifted to Wausau where he died the next day.
Emerson was arrested later that weekend on suspicion of battery. He was released after posting a $50,000 bond but was scheduled for a bond modification hearing after the charges were increased to reckless homicide.
Two additional suspects, Arlin Sangster and Brandon Boehm, are scheduled to be formally charged with reckless homicide on April 3rd. They are each being held on matching $250,000 bonds as well.
Emerson returns to court for a preliminary hearing on April 4th. Each suspect faces a maximum penalty of 60 years in prison if found guilty, with the possibility of added time due to the victim’s age.
