SHAWANO, WI (WSAU) — There will be another attempt at a jury trial for a Shawano County man accused of strangling a woman.
Michael Ingold’s two-week homicide trial was canceled on Thursday after the judge granted a motion to adjourn.
The 59-year-old is accused of strangling the woman in June of 2022. While it’s not clear if he and the woman were in a relationship, the charges against him do carry domestic abuse modifiers.
Investigators note that there have been previous incidents between Ingold and the woman, including a case from 2021 in which he was accused of strangling her and operating a firearm while intoxicated.
Ingold’s defense team filed the motion. No reason for the adjournment was given, though Ingold had previously requested a speedy trial.
This isn’t the first time that the case has been scheduled for trial, only to be canceled in the weeks leading up to the start date. He was scheduled for trial in mid-September 2023 and again in early January 2024.
While no reason for the most recent delay was given, records show previous delays were caused by questions surrounding evidence.
Ingold faces a mandatory life sentence if found guilty. He’s being held on a $1 million cash bond and returns to court on April 22nd for a motion hearing.
