CHIPPEWA COUNTY, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – An area man and prison inmate is facing new allegations on Monday of attempting to hire someone to murder the prosecutor who placed him there.
Jay Conklin is charged with conspiracy to conduct first-degree intentional homicide and solicitation of first-degree intentional homicide after previously being sentenced to 40 years in prison for his convictions in two child sexual assault cases.
According to the criminal complaint filed last week Thursday, two fellow Stanley inmates said Conklin was trying to persuade them to murder the prosecutor in his most recent case. The inmates claimed Conklin had been studying the prosecutor, including where they lived and who their families were.
These new charges have a maximum sentence of 72 and a half years and Conklin will make his first appearance on these allegations in May.
