WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Kronenwetter man accused of selling drugs that contained Fentanyl to a person who nearly died from an overdose has pled no contest to a pair of felony counts.
Wyatt Gates entered the plea for manufacturing or delivering fentanyl and possession of methamphetamine in late March. Judge Gregory Strasser found him guilty and ordered a presentence investigation.
He’s accused of selling drugs to a man who passed out in a Schofield nightclub earlier this month. When he came to, he admitted that he had injected the drugs and immediately knew something was wrong.
Investigators say the substance tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl, though the victim said he was told the drugs didn’t contain fentanyl. Gates was later identified as the seller, and officers were able to arrest him at his Kronenwetter home. They also found over 20 grams of meth and items used to measure and package drugs.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 12th, when Gates will face up to 40 years in prison.
