WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAU) – President Joe Biden has announced that his administration is looking into an executive order that will limit the number of individuals who can cross into the U.S. each day as immigration becomes a pivotal issue in key swing states.
According to Axios, President Biden’s interview with Univision on Tuesday signaled his intention to issue the executive order limiting asylum-seekers’ ability to enter the southern border. To prevent immigrants from entering the country if doing so would be “detrimental” to American national interests, Biden would exercise his authority under Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
There’s currently a heated internal debate about the legalities and politics of a Trump-style lockdown, and although this isn’t official news, Axios has been informed that such an executive order is expected to be issued by the end of April.
In contrast to Biden’s first year as president, when the favorability margin with Latino voters was a staggering 29 points (53-24), the most recent Axios-Ipsos poll revealed that Biden was now only leading Trump by nine points (41-32) among Latinos. That might be crucial in swing states like Arizona and Nevada.
“In almost every case, Trump performs better than the Republican brand, and Biden performs worse than the Democratic brand,” Ipsos pollster and senior vice president Chris Jackson stated while discussing the poll. In terms of the US economy and combating crime, Latinos supported Trump in the poll by 22 points and 11 points, respectively.
