CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – Remind me again who the insurrectionists are.
This received very little news coverage, but two days ago protesters took over a part of the U.S. Capitol. They shut down the Senate dining hall, protesting U.S. support for Israel in their war with Hamas. This begs some obvious questions. How did they get in? Who organized this? Which members of Congress listed these protesters on their visitors list? Who in Congress knew what was being planned in advance?
Recall that 749 defendants are serving jail time for the January 6th riots inside the Capitol.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who controls the Senate’s part of the capitol building, is certain to have no curiosity about how this happened at all. Just last month he said future aid to Israel is in jeopardy if they don’t agree to an immediate ceasefire. He also called on some political parties who are part of Benjamin Netanyahu’s unity government to withdraw and force early elections. This is a spectacle from the highest ranking Jew in the United State government.
Six days ago in Dearborn, Michigan, the chant in the streets was “death to America.” Muslim protesters there consider Israel the Little Satan – a country the size of New Jersey with 10-million citizens. The United States is Big Satan. The way to stop U.S. support for Israel is to disrupt life in the U.S.
Mind you, these protesters are exercising their freedom of religion and freedom of speech… blessings that they have only because they live in the United States. These are freedoms that exist nowhere in the Arab world. Try holding a similar protest to Saudi Arabia or Iraq where you chant death to their rulers. I assure them that they will be arrested and they’ll be lucky if their heads remain attached to their bodies.
See what happens if a Jew sounds the Shofar on the streets of Baghdad, Cairo, or Tehran. Yet the Muslim call to prayer echoes five times daily in Dearborn. These are the voters Joe Biden must hold to win Michigan.
Now, exactly, who is the threat to democracy?
