CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – There was a small protest Saturday morning on the 400-block in Wausau. So small that it generated no media attention. Even on a day when the TV stations and online news websites are scrambling for content of any kind, they all ignored this.
And that’s fortunate for the 10-or-so people who gathered at the corner of Scott and 4th Street, holding Palestinian flags and signs. There’s no lasting record, no photographs, no news account, of their stupidity.
I rolled down my car window and yelled at them while I was driving by. I wish I had more time to get out and confront them directly, although I know it’s impossible to change the minds of fools. Yet, there they were, chanting public support for murderers, terrorists, beheaders, child-killers, rapists, and hostage-takers. The side these moron-protesters choose publicly says, if they could, they’d reenact the attack of October 7th again. Their charter calls for the elimination of Israel, from the river to the sea.
I can hear the counter-argument already. Israel’s counter-attack in Gaza is a humanitarian disaster. And that’s true. That also ignores that Israel has not occupied Gaza since 2005, and the people who live there elected Hamas – a terrorist group – to lead them. Elections there, too, have consequences. International aid that has been sent to Gaza over the last decade has built a network of tunnels for military use instead of feeding the masses.
I am also reminded that Israel needs a better ally than the Biden White House, which threatens to cut off aid if a cease-fire isn’t agreed to. We are told such a deal would lead to 40 hostages being released – how about all of them? – in exchange for Israel emptying its jails. It’s such a stupid deal that the only explanation for it is tha Joe Biden needs to shore up his Muslim support in Michigan; a shameful pandering for votes at the expense of an ally at war.
I too pray for peace in the Middle East. And I’ve also come to the conclusion that we’ll only get there when Israel achieves final victory, and Hamas is no longer a viable military or political force. Any other outcome just buys time for murderers and thugs to plot their next spectacle of terror.
A small group of Wausonians are too dumb to see it.
