New city leaders will be installed Tuesday night.
That includes Wausau and Wisconsin Rapids, who will swear in new Mayors and some new faces on their City Councils.
In Wausau, Doug Diny will take the Mayor’s gavel from Katie Rosenberg, who has held the post for the last four years. The City Council will welcome a pair of new faces with Terry Kilian replacing Tom Kilian in District Three. She ran unopposed after Tom, her son, announced he would not seek another term on the council.
Victoria Tierney ousted Dawn Herbst in District 9 to secure a two-year seat on the council.
Tom Neal returns to the council after two years away, replacing Diny in District 4.
Tonight’s organizational meeting will include the election of a new City Council President. Alders will also get their Committee assignments.
In Wisconsin Rapids, Matt Zacher will take over as the new Mayor.
Jeff Penzkover will take over the District 4 Alder seat, defeating Tom Rayome. Madalyn Palmquist will also be seated in District 8, taking over the seat formerly held by Jay Bemke.
In addition to committee assignments and selecting a new Council President, they’ll also decide how to fill the District 3 seat previously held by Zacher. That can be done through a special election or application process. That latter would involve the council interviewing all interested candidates, and then voting one of them into the seat.
