WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — A former teacher and coach at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption High School is accused of producing and storing naked images of children, including some images of students.
WAOW TV reports that Seth Milkey is now facing ten felony counts for capturing an intimate representation, charges that could land him in prison for up to 35 years. Investigators say he had photos of at least ten students on his computer, some showing nudity.
The investigation began with a welfare check on Milkey, who allegedly threatened to kill himself after his family discovered what appeared to be naked images of children on his computer. The images did not show sex acts but did include nudity.
Prosecutors alleged that the images were captured without consent and may have been captured by a camera set up in Milkey’s bathroom. All of the victims are believed to be students that he was mentoring.
The incident has caught the attention of the Diocese of La Crosse, who issued the following statement:
“The Diocese of La Crosse is profoundly shocked and deeply saddened by the recent allegations against a former athletic coach within our community. We were appalled to learn yesterday afternoon that Seth Milkey was charged with allegations of taking pictures of our Catholic school teenagers without their consent.”
Officials add that the allegations “represent a grave violation of law and Diocese of La Crosse policies designed to protect students and their well-being. Stringent protocols are in place to prevent abuse and ensure students’ safety, and we will continue to enforce these policies rigorously. Mr. Milkey underwent background checks before and during his time as a coach, and allowing students to visit his residence is a clear and troubling violation of diocesan and school policy. We urge anyone with relevant information to come forward and report their allegations.
Additionally, we encourage anyone who has experienced or witnessed any form of abuse to seek support and assistance from the appropriate authorities and support services.”
The statement also praised those who alerted the authorities to the alleged behavior, and promised to work with investigators as the case plays out.
Court records show a complaint was filed against him on April 12th. He’s scheduled for an initial appearance on June 3rd.
