ST. LOUIS, MO (WSAU) — William Contreras provided all of the offense in a 2-1 win for the Brewers over the struggling St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.
Contreras doubled in the 3rd inning to score Blake Perkins and give the Brewers a 1-0 lead. That held up through the 8th inning. Then with the bases loaded in the 9th Milwaukee’s Joel Payamps issued an RBI walk to Brendan Donovan.
Perkins was placed at second base to start the 10th. Then with two outs Contreras sent a grounder into center field to bring him home for a second time.
Paul Goldschmidt was the placed runner for the Cardinals in their half, but he didn’t make it past third base.
Contreras finished the game 2-5 with two RBI and two strikeouts. Perkins went 2-4. Willy Adames was the only other Brewer to record a hit, he went 1-5.
Payamps (1-1) was charged with a blown save but was also credited with the win. Hoby Milner picked up the save in the 10th, issuing one walk and striking out two.
The same two teams will play this afternoon. Coverage begins at 12:40 on WSAU.
