GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers wasted no time on Friday getting their offensive tackle, Jordan Morgan, set up for mandatory rookie minicamp next week.
According to the Packers, Morgan will be sticking with his college number of 77, which was being used by fellow offensive lineman and 2023 undrafted free agent Kadeem Telfort. This will be the second time a Packers first-round offensive lineman has chosen 77 as their number, with the last being former 2nd overall pick Tony Mandarich.
Packers GM Brian Gutekunst spoke about Morgan late Thursday night, saying he feels Morgan was one of the most versatile players in this year’s draft, saying, “Left tackle feet. Very athletic kid. Really sturdy, strong lower body. He did 27 reps on the bench press, so he’s a really strong athlete. When you move inside, things move a little quicker and you handle a little more power, and he’s certainly shown an ability to do that.”
Gutekunst also said Morgan is a “versatile offensive lineman like we like. Really athletic. We feel he can play four positions for us. Two-time team captain. Our kind of guy.”
According to Mark Eckel of 247 Sports, a current NFL scout told him there were only two offensive linemen who were ready to be day-one NFL starters, with the Los Angeles Chargers Joe Alt being one and Morgan being the other.
For the previous two seasons with the Wildcats, Morgan was among the top offensive tackles in college football, ranking as the fifth-highest-graded offensive tackle in 2023 among linemen with at least 500 snaps, per Pro Football Focus. Throughout more than 900 pass-blocking snaps, Morgan gave up just 31 quarterback pressures, three sacks, and three quarterback hits.
