MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — Joey Ortiz brought home the winning run on a single to left in the bottom of the 11th to lift the Milwaukee Brewers to a 7-6 win over the New York Yankees in interleague play on Friday.
Ortiz’s single scored placed runner Owen Miller and broke a 6-6 tie after the sides exchanged runs in the 10th. He also hit a two-run homer in the 2nd inning to tie the game at 2, finishing the day 2-4 with four RBI and one run scored.
Brice Turang also went 2-4 with a run scored. Blake Perkins and Trent Grisham both homered and finished 1-5 at the plate.
Colin Rae went six innings, giving up four earned runs and five hits but managed to keep the game from getting out of hand. A trio of relief pitchers kept the Yankees off the board for the final three innings before Jared Koenig earned the win. He went two innings and allowed one unearned run (New York’s placed runner in the 10th) and one hit.
