WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAU) – Former President Donald Trump has opened up one of his widest leads over President Biden in recent months, with several swing dates continuing to lean toward Trump as U.S. economic woes continue to affect voters.
According to CNN/SSRS, Trump currently holds his largest lead over Biden in CNN polling history at six percentage points, or 49% to 43%. When adding in third-party candidates, Trump’s lead swells to nine percentage points due to Robert Kennedy Jr. winning 16% of the vote, Cornell West winning 4%, and Jill Stein winning 3%.
One of the biggest reasons for the large gap was a question respondents answered overwhelmingly in favor of Trump, “Presidency, do you consider it a success or a failure?” with 55% saying the former President had a successful term in office compared to just 39% who said the same about Biden.
Regarding the economy and inflation, voters gave Biden relatively low marks (34% and 29%, respectively), with 62% of respondents who said the economy is “deeply important” saying they intend to vote for Trump. Immigration, crime, and gun control were among the other issues that 48% of respondents indicated they thought were “extremely important.”
This poll comes as Real Clear Politics latest polling averages show Trump with solid leads in swing states such as Arizona (5% lead), Nevada (4.8% lead), Georgia (4% lead), and North Carolina (5.4% lead). Meanwhile, the closest states remain Pennsylvania, with Trump leading by just 0.6%, Michigan, with Trump leading by 1.3%, and Wisconsin, with Trump leading by 1.8%.
