GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers are taking a few days before returning OTAs, but one of their newest stars has been impressed with his new teammates just two practices into the program.
According to the Packers Wire, safety Xavier McKinney spoke about being a part of the Packers’ revamped secondary, saying, “I’d like to say this is the best group I’ve been a part of since I’ve been in the league, and that’s from me to whoever the last person is, doesn’t matter. Everyone has done a great job. I think the talent level in our room is out of this world. It’s going to be fun to play with these guys because everyone is smart. We’re all working off each other, building off each other, and competing with each other to make each other better.”
The Packers signed Xavier McKinney to a four-year $64 million deal, which included a $23 million signing bonus to help solve their safety issues, as well as drafting former Georgia Bulldog and All-SEC Second Team star Javon Bullard to play alongside him for years to come.
Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley praised McKinney earlier this month, saying, “It’s been so nice to have X. What a pro! How hard he works, the communication, the way he is in the meeting rooms, and the way he looks out for the younger guys. That’s the stuff you don’t see. We think he can do all those things (at safety), and he’s shown that he can.”
Green Bay is expected to try several different looks this upcoming preseason to see who will indeed be alongside McKinney, which is expected to also include fourth-round pick Evan Williams and fifth-round pick Kitan Oladapo.
