WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAU) – The Republican National Committee headquarters have been reopened after the building was locked down due to a substance being sent to the building.
According to sources at the scene who spoke with NBC News correspondent Dasha Burns, a hazmat team was on-site, and the threat pertained to vials of blood that were sent to the RNC. No one was reported injured or affected by the vials.
The vials were addressed to former President Trump, according to a person familiar with the situation but was not permitted to talk publicly about the matter. It remains unclear whether the vials were accompanied by a statement explaining why they had been provided and neither the RNC nor a Secret Service spokesperson were immediately available for comment.
The lockdown began at 7:45 a.m. EST and ended at 9:40 a.m. EST, and employees were allowed to return to business as usual. The lockdown marked the RNC’s first threat since January 7th, 2021, when a bomb was placed outside of the building, which was taken and destroyed by the district’s bomb squad.
