
Wausau Woodchucks
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau Woodchucks defeated Wisconsin Rapids 4-3 on Friday, extending their season-opening win streak to five games.
The game was a pitcher’s duel across the first 2 innings. Clayton Burke (Central Methodist University) went 3.1 innings pitched, striking out 2 and allowing just 1 earned run.
The Woodchucks would take the lead in the top of the 3rd, scoring 4 runs on back-to-back singles by Val Cerna Jr. (Central Methodist University) and Jacob Haley (University of South Alabama).
Christian Smith-Johnson (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) made his Northwoods League debut tonight for the Chucks, and singled in his first AB, scoring Jacob Haley from third.
Tyler Smith (University of South Alabama) would come into the game in the top of the 8th to try and preserve the lead at 4-3. He struck out 2 batters back-to-back, to keep the Chucks ahead.
Seth Clausen (University of Minnesota) would come in to close for the Chucks, his second appearance in as many games. He struck out 2 to earn the save.
Wausau and Wisconsin Rapids meet at Atheltic Park Saturday evening to wrap up the season’s first series between the Central Wisconsin rivals. First pitch is at 6:05.
