APRIN, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – One of Wood County’s biggest recreation areas just received a new upgrade.
The county’s Parks & Forestry Department celebrated the opening of its new trail system at Powers Bluff Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday on the north side of the park.
The trails had been in development for around three years, and now features more than five miles of single-track bicycle trails and three miles of gravel for multi-use purposes.
Parks & Forestry Director Chad Schooley, a lot of people were looking to see more trail options for all seasons. “If people wanted to come up right now, they could enjoy a whole day of exploring all the different types of trail systems, they could have a picnic, we do have a reservable shelter: the old stone shelter that we use in the winter months, that is also reservable in the summer months,” he said.
Schooley adds the next project the county is pursuing is a trailhead shelter building that can be used year-round, which could also be reserved for events.
