MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers may be without one of their top young pitching prospects for the rest of the 2024 season after getting multiple medical opinions on a sore elbow.
According to manager Pat Murphy, who spoke to MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy, he’s hoping to stay optimistic, but he believes Gasser’s season is over due to precautionary reasons, saying, “I hope I’m wrong. I really do.”
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Curt Hogg reported earlier this week that Gasser received opinions from renowned surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache as well as Dr. Keith Meister after he told reporters and the team that his ulnar collateral ligament is “not as strong as it should be” but is also not “broken.” Dr. ElAttrache stated that non-surgical rehab could be an option because the ligament is not currently ruptured.
Gasser joins a growing list of Brewers pitchers currently on the IL, including former ace Brandon Woodruff, Wade Miley, D.L. Hall, Jakob Junis, and Joe Ross. Milwaukee has looked to add veteran pitchers to help fill in while they wait and hope for pitchers like Ross to return from injury by signing righty Joel Kuhnel to a minor league contract on Wednesday and former Marlins starter Elieser Hernandez to a one-year big league deal.
