COLBY, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — National Weather Service forecasters have confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down in Colby on Monday.
The declaration came down Tuesday morning, according to WAOW TV. Forecasters used radar data and damage reports from the area to make the call.
An EF-0 tornado features wind speeds of 65-85 MPH, which can break off tree branches, take down power lines, and cause damage to roofs.
Local officials including Colby-Abbotsford Police Chief Police Chief Alex Bowman said they saw the tornado at around 9:00 AM, though the report was unconfirmed by the NWS at that time.
“Myself and another officer responded to the area. We seen the damage that happened over there. Several trees down, several buildings had been damaged houses and trampolines flipped over in backyards. We noticed several power lines have been down and we let dispatch know to contact Xcel energy,” Bowman told WAOW.
Brady Hoes, Vice President of Loos Machine and Automation, said, “It was abrupt with the doors coming in, everyone was safe, but there was really no time for evacuation or anything like that even though we have those protocols here, our safety manager and staff wanted to still advise everybody and everybody follow protocol.”
Despite the damage, no one was injured.
