STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — One of the three Wausau-area men accused of beating 61-year-old Donald Mitchell Jr. to death in a Stevens Point parking lot made a court appearance on Wednesday.
Brandon Boehm was bound over for trial by a Portage County judge. He’s been charged with first-degree reckless homicide, a Class B felony with three modifiers including one that could increase his penalty due to the victim’s age.
He’s also facing a repeat modifier due to prior misdemeanor convictions for retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. The third modifier charges him as a party to the crime, meaning he didn’t act alone in the incident.

Investigators say Arlin Sangster and Christian Emerson also had a hand in the incident, which occurred back in late March. Police say the trio was going through Mitchell’s truck, which was parked in a downtown lot. Witnesses say Mitchell believed the men had stolen something from his vehicle, adding that he armed himself with a pair of pliers to confront them. The tool was found next to his body before he was rushed to a local hospital, where he died the next day.
Doctors say he had multiple fractured ribs and nearly every bone in his face was broken.
Investigators added that Mitchell was homeless and had been living out of his pickup.
The 20-year-old Boehm is scheduled to enter a plea for the charges on September 3rd. A scheduling conference has also been set for October 7th. If found guilty at trial he faces up to 46 years in prison.
Sangster returns to court on June 25th for a scheduling conference. Emerson, who has pled not guilty to his charges, is due back in court on October 9th for a motion hearing before a week-long trial in late January.
