GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – One of the top NFL insiders believes that Packers star quarterback Jordan Love’s upcoming contract extension has increased over the last week following recent quarterback deals nationwide.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who spoke to ESPN Milwaukee on Tuesday, he’s heard that Love will command “north of” $55 million annually in his new extension, after he was reportedly likely looking for a deal closer to $52 or $53 million earlier this offseason.
“I don’t believe Jordan Love is taking less than Trevor Lawrence; I just don’t think he’s doing it. So if the deal had gotten done a few weeks ago, I could’ve seen that number being $52 million, $53 million, and now I see that number being north of $55 million,” Schefter said.
The rise in cost comes as Schefter believes Love is looking to pass the deal the Jacksonville Jaguars just gave to former 1st overall pick Trevor Lawrence, who signed a five-year deal worth $275 million with $142 million fully guaranteed at signing, which mirrored the extension the Cincinnati Bengals gave to Joe Burrow in 2023, making them the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.
By the numbers, Love finished with fewer interceptions, a higher passer rating, a better offensive grade from PFF, more passing yards, and more touchdowns than Lawrence had in 2023. During last week’s mandatory minicamp, Love told reporters, “It’s what I’ve heard,” when asked if he believes a deal might be reached before training camp begins in July.
