MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) — Mosinee Mayor Brent Jacobson is hopeful that his city will cash in on next year’s NFL Draft in some way.
“There will come a point where Green Bay can’t hold any more [tourists,]” said Jacobson. “They do have some closer, surrounding communities. I don’t know that we will see much of it, but I would certainly hope so.”
One thing Mosinee can offer is the Central Wisconsin Airport, which he says provides a good option for fans who want to avoid the crowds at the Green Bay and Oshkosh airports. “I’ll look to [them] to see what they can do to market themselves, and we work well with them.”
Earlier estimates from the Visit Wausau Convention and Visitors Bureau have shown Central Wisconsin’s share of the draft windfall could be nearly one million dollars. Earlier this week it was revealed that prices for vacation rentals in the city of Green Bay have skyrocketed, with most going for more than $1,000 per night for the week of the draft.

Officials with the Visit Wausau Convention and Visitor’s Bureau are expecting to hold a town hall later this year to help businesses in the area develop plans to capitalize on the event.
Jacobson also pledged his community’s support to the CVB’s efforts to lure the 2026 NHPA World Championship. “You’ll have people coming in, for an event like that, from beyond a drive. They’ll need to fly in [to CWA]. [We have] stuff to do; a brewery, fine dining, and we have a brand new hotel you can stay at.
“I suspect we could see some spillover from that. We do with other things that occur outside Mosinee,” added Jacobson.

Visit Wausau and the Greenheck Turner Field House will finalize their application for the event this week. A decision from the NHPA is expected by late August.
According to a newsletter from the governing body that was published back in November, at least six other areas may be bidding for the event including Las Vegas, Peoria, IL, and Kansas City, KS.
