WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A former youth pastor at Faith Reformed Church in Wisconsin Rapids is accused of one felony count of repeated sexual assault of the same child.
Attorney General Josh Kaul and Wood County District Attorney Craig Lambert have announced an arrest warrant for James Lane, who currently lives in suburban Denver. Investigators say the 52-year-old had a relationship with a student that turned inappropriate.
The victim, who was not identified, did not immediately notify leaders at Faith Reformed about the relationship. The accusations came to light through a tip via the Clergy and Faith Leader Abuse Initiative website.
One incident allegedly occurred in Lane’s car as he was giving the victim a ride home after an event.
Court records show an arrest warrant for Lane was issued on Wednesday, June 19th. He remains at large as of today.
“The Clergy and Faith Leader Abuse Initiative is providing a safe and trusted place for survivors to make reports about sexual abuse,” said Kaul in a press release. “Thank you to those whose investigation of the information reported in this case has led to this criminal charge.”
